AF Approved is not a paid badge, a popularity contest, or shorthand for luxury. It is a recommendation standard: the place, dish, product, or experience delivered strongly enough that we would choose it again and send someone we care about there.
The five-part standard
Delicious
Flavor, technique, balance, temperature, and ingredient quality have to be convincing.
Distinct
There should be a clear point of view. We should understand why this exists and what it does better or differently.
Reliable
One transcendent bite is not enough if the surrounding experience is chaotic or inconsistent.
Worth it
Price is contextual. Expensive can be worth it; cheap can be poor value. We look at the complete exchange.
Recommendable
We should be able to name who will love it, when to go, and what to get—without a paragraph of disclaimers.
What AF Approved does not mean
It does not mean perfect. Restaurants have off nights, products have tradeoffs, and taste is personal. It means the strengths are substantial, the caveats are understood, and the recommendation remains easy to defend.
Commercial separation
Advertising, hosted experiences, gifts, affiliate links, and partnerships never guarantee AF Approved status. Commercial relationships are disclosed and kept separate from editorial verdicts.
